The global economy is increasingly characterised by a few dominant firms and their billionaire CEOs, while smaller businesses orbit them in ever more desperate attempts to keep customers, against the odds. Think supermarket chains and their small-business suppliers, or online sellers trying to get their wares visible on Amazon on Black Friday, as examples: all are subservient to a dominant firm, unable to say no to exorbitant fees and conditions.
